A Walking Tour of North Creek

North Creek was the last stop on Thomas Durant's Adirondack Railroad. That made it the gateway to the great camps of the Adirondacks and an important center for freight and commerce. On this 1.5-mile walking tour, we’ll tell you place-by-place this community’s remarkable story.

First, we’ll follow North Creek to its intersection with the Hudson River.

Then we’ll turn toward the North Creek Depot Museum and other historic buildings that served the railroad.

Finally, we’ll turn again on Main Street and return, exploring the shops and businesses that the arrival of the railroad in 1871 helped to generate.

Points of interest on this foldable printed map correspond closely with those we spotlight on the audio tour. You can pick it up at the Johnsburg Town Hall and Library or Tannery Pond Center, which is where the tour begins.

First Wilderness Audio Tour

We’ll take you on 40 miles of the Central Adirondack Trail, a state-designated scenic highway from Big Bend on the Hudson River to Warren County's far northwest corner, home to Crane and Gore mountains, Thirteenth Lake, and the hamlets of North Creek and North River.

The Glen Bridge was built in 1816.
